Last weekend, PeoplePlus NI sponsored the TEDxStormont Salon on living an Inspired Life, attended by one of our Trainers, Marcun Doran. As a trainer for our Building Employment through Education Project, Marcun is a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist who has supported participants with their mental health on their journey into employment.
Held at Parliament Building on Saturday 7th April, the TEDxStormont Inspired Life salon included speakers from near and far, sharing their wisdom and insights into health and well-being.
Speakers included chef Brian Donnelly, who discussed sustainability and food. Comedian and special guest Jennifer Rawlings shared how approaching life with a smile impacted a life-defining decision, which could have cost her her life. Musical guest Dani also preformed original music inspired by her travels. Event host Elisabeth Welty from Flow Yoga Studio closed the event with a yoga practice in the Great Hall in Stormont – a great experience as all of us yogis sent “ohm” vibrations across the building!
With speakers giving insights on how to live an Inspired Life, PeoplePlus NI were delighted to take part, giving our staff and customers an opportunity to spark new discussions and create new connections regarding health and well-being.
For example, PeoplePlus NI’s Positive Steps programme focuses on helping people who have been out of work due to work-limiting health conditions. Positive Steps helps our customers with their specific needs, like managing their physical and mental health, boosting their confidence, or taking steps to connect with more people in the local community.
While PeoplePlus NI’s focus is on helping people train and prepare for work, many of our programme participants come to us for support – whether it’s regarding their mental health or other areas in their lives. That is because work is only one part of a person’s life. Preparing for work requires a holistic view, so the TEDxStormont Salon on an Inspired Life was a great platform for our trainers and staff to learn more and share our experiences in supporting our participants.
