Shadow Secretary of State for NI commends our ‘innovative’ employment centre

We were delighted to welcome Mr Ivan Lewis MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and Professor Deirdre Heenan, Provost of the University of Ulster Magee and Coleraine, to our Employment Training Centre in Derry’s iconic City Factory.

The visit consisted of a tour of our centre and training facilities where the Shadow Secretary of State had the chance to observe a typical day in our Employment Centre. Speaking to some of our staff and customers alike, Mr Lewis MP got a good sense of the work that is carried out as part of the Steps 2 Success programme in support of our jobseekers and employers.

Commenting on his visit, Mr Lewis MP stated: “It’s really exciting to see such an innovative and personalised approach which is giving people a sense of hope and confidence to get back into employment.

“It’s clear to see that the service EOS NI is providing benefits both job seekers and local employers, and that it is delivered by a genuinely committed and highly skilled staff team.”

Professor Deirdre Heenan adds: “Getting people into work is an incredibly important task, and it was great to meet people who may previously have been disillusioned feeling very positive and motivated now they’ve begun their training experience with EOS.”

Tina McKenzie, our Managing Director, commented: “We are very proud to showcase our offering here in Foyle. We have invested in two state-of-the-art, bespoke training centres, one in Newtownabbey and the other here in Foyle.

“Our focus is to provide flexible support for job seekers, helping them to overcome any barriers they may face and offering them tailored training that will help them attain their employment goals.

“We’re also working closely with local employers, identifying any skills gaps and challenges they experience when it comes to sourcing quality people. We then use that information to shape the training and development of potential candidates; it’s an approach that thus far is working very well.”
