Teddy Bears Family Picnic at Magilligan

PeoplePlus NI’s Justice teams work hard every day to create supportive, comfortable, and safe environments in the Visitors’ Centres across Northern Ireland’s prisons.

With many visitors including families and children, this month PeoplePlus NI worked in partnership with Barnardo’s and the NI Prisons Service to hold a Teddy Bears Picnic in celebration of International Play Day. Child-centred visits were organised where dads could play freely with their families.

In addition to face-painting, children made head bands and their own bear for the Teddy Bears Picnic. Lunch was served Teddy Bears Picnic style in the Visitors’ Centre, giving fathers the opportunity to sit down with their loved ones and eat together as a family.

Strong family relationships is a key factor in rehabilitation and combatting re-offending once fathers have left prison. With the Teddy Bears Picnic, the Visitors’ Centre was transformed, giving families an opportunity to re-connect and children an opportunity to build stronger relationships with their fathers.
